Google Forms

Google Forms is a survey administration software included with the web-based Google Docs Editors suite offered by Google. It is widely used for surveys but has some limitations for web forms and advanced data collection techniques.

Google Forms limitations

No payment integration feature: Google Forms does not support payment gateways for payment collection directly through its forms ex: Stripe or Paypal

Limited integration: Integration is restricted primarily to Google Sheets, with no direct integration into other third-party tools or platforms.

No PDF export: Forms and responses cannot be exported directly as PDF files.

Limited custom formatting: custom formatting options are restricted to basic page collections, lacking advanced styling capabilities.

No signature capture: Google Forms does not support the capture of digital signatures.

No GPS or barcode capture: forms cannot capture GPS location data or scan and capture barcode data.

Embedding difficulties: Embedding Google Forms into websites can be challenging and may require additional effort. See how easy it is to publish and embed web forms with FormAssembly.

Manual response sorting: Responses are not automatically organized, necessitating manual compilation and analysis.

No password protection: Forms cannot be password-protected, leaving responses potentially accessible to anyone with the form link.

Limited customization and branding: Offers only basic customization options and limited branding capabilities, restricting the ability to create fully branded surveys or intricate survey designs.

Offline access limitations: Requires an internet connection to create and access forms. Although respondents can complete forms offline using the Google Forms app, creators face limitations in editing or accessing responses offline.

Limited question types: While various question types are supported, Google Forms may not meet all research or survey needs due to the absence of advanced or experimental question types, ex: doesn’t offer a built-in ranking question type.

Can you do conditional questions in Google Forms?

The conditional logic in Google Forms is quite basic. To add conditional logic, you must divide your form into sections and apply conditions based on those sections. If you want to add logic on a per-question basis, each question must be in its own section, which is impractical for complex branching scenarios.

It does not support advanced branching options such as:

  1. Multiple conditions:
    • There is no way to create branching questions based on multiple conditions using logical operators (e.g., AND/OR).
  2. Negative conditions:
    • You cannot set conditions based on what an answer isn’t, limiting the flexibility of form logic.
  3. Conditional integration paths
